Interpersonal Communication

Honesty
-
Sensitivity to Others
The students will show honesty, sensitivity to others and listening by waiting for their turn, not giving away the answer, and waiting quietly so the guesser can hear. They will work on interpersonal communication by recognizing each individuals unique voice.
S.T.A.R. Options:
Class Clap, counting, and rhythms. Teacher or one student lead. When the whole class sounds as one, try tow, then three, etc…
Math Counting (Multiples) Partner Counting. Clapping as a group to desired number. Add a partner and alternate count. Change partners.
Play + Connect Activity
This is a guessing game with an animal twist. One player will be the guesser. This player should sit with their back toward the other players. As leader, walk around the play area and quietly tap another player on the shoulder. This player will be the owl and should make an owl sound, “hoo, hoo, hoo!” The owl is allowed to disguise their voice. The guesser has three chances to guess who the owl is. If they guess correctly, the owl becomes the guesser for the next round. Play this game with different animal sounds.
Breathing Exercise Options:
Belly Breathing
5 belly breaths with mouth closed and hands on belly. Goal is to get students to breathe through nose and use their diaphragm. There should be very little movement of the chest and the belly should move in and out. Can do several rounds of this activity.
Accordion Breathing
5 belly breaths with mouth closed and hands on sides of lower ribs. Goal is to get students to breathe through nose and use their diaphragm. There should be very little movement of the chest and the students should feel movement outward on the inhale. Can do several rounds of this activity.
Learn + Grow Activity
The students could disguise their voice and give answers to different categories such as colors, shapes, numbers, or any other topics discussed in the classroom. The students could also answer math fact problems with a disguised voice.
Reflect Activity
Is it hard to wait your turn? Is it OK for someone not to get the correct answer?
Variations
Try two students stating the WHO and have the guesser get both.
